There are ways to get things accomplished
DEAR EDITOR: Regarding Bill Abel’s recent letter to the editor, I really have to take offense at what he considers ‘‘special interest.’’ ‘‘Special interest’’ is a pretty loaded term in this country and when used in the political landscape, usually refers to monied interests who subvert the political process for their own good. Drug companies, insurance companies, Wall Street — whatever and whoever is making sure that the legislature listens to them and their concerns and not the will of the masses of people who don’t have a voice and don’t pay them to be heard. With that in mind, I cannot fathom anyone seriously referring to anyone in this town who goes to tribute bands, wants to get a skate park built, wants to get an outside exercise station built or any of the letter writer’s examples as ‘‘special interests.’’ The letter writer then goes on to write that people who are silent get ignored.
