Panther near Harding sees senseless loss
DEAR EDITOR: The panther billboard is brilliant. It seems to be quietly and intensely watching the destruction of Harding. The deep, yellow eyes aren’t friendly or surprised. They are seriously evaluating the senseless loss. Warren G. Harding High School is like a dynasty passed on from generation to generation. But now, all that it has represented will be gone. This dark day in Warren’s history will never be forgotten and the people responsible for this deed will be remembered. Harding football brought this town together. Some people say, out with the old and in with the new. But sometimes — and this is one of those times — years of history, pride and memories attached to Harding seem to make the school a living being who has a heartbeat that resonates throughout the community, even while it is being destroyed. Though the Raiders played for Harding, the Panthers never left the building and their memory resides in the halls of Harding. All who went to Harding take pride in it.
