Group builds ramp for Cortland seniors

August 20, 2008

CORTLAND — Volunteers with Prince of Peace Lutheran Church working with Trumbull County Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans are hoping to make the life of a local elderly couple a little easier by constructing a porch, deck and ramp at their Fowler Street home. For Charles and Mary Cross the need for ramp and porch will help make their lives easier allowing them to get their mail and go into their yard and driveway. Brian Kovach, who lives across the street from the Crosses, said he has noticed they were having trouble getting to their yard and wanted to see what could be done to help them. The members of the church and Thrivent Financial helped clean up the yard, trim trees, pull weeds, power wash the sides of house, clean up flower beds, and paint a shed and swing. “Whatever needed done we helped with,” Kovach said. While the church donated the workers, Thrivent provided the funds. Donations of services, discounts and volunteers also came from local businesses.
