Best still expected for area home sales
Trumbull County housing market gave mixed signals in June, but next month could show a 20 percent gain, a real estate broker said Friday. Sales of single-family houses and condominiums fell to 144 from 173 in May, while the average days the homes spent on the market increased to 131 from 118, according to July’s report from the Youngstown Columbiana Association of Realtors Inc. But Yvonne Smith, broker with GMAC Eaton Group, said she expects the influx of new workers at the General Motors Corp. Lordstown Complex, which began in June, to show up in July sales. ‘‘I think you’ll see a big jump — at least 20 percent in both counties,’’ she said. ‘‘People are in hotels and motels looking at homes right now.’’ Prices should gain as well as the backlog of unsold homes is worked down, Smith said, although she added she doesn’t see prices going up by a ‘‘huge amount.
