Browns sign backjup QB

November 26, 2013 - Mike McLain
The Browns apparently have added a quarterback to back up Brandon Weeden, who, given the way the season has gone, will probably be added to the injury week in coming weeks.

Alex Tanney, who had been on the Dallas Cowboys practice squad, posted a tweet announcing that he is on his way to Cleveland. The team hasn't announced the signing as it waits for Tanney to pass a physical.

"Thankful for everything the Jones family and Dallas staff has done for me. Great organization. New chapter starts in Cleveland today," Tanney wrote in his tweet.

Tanney was a record-setting quarterback at Division III Monmouth College, where he set the NCAA all-time record for touchdown passes in any division with 157. He holds the Division III record for passing yards with 14,249.

Tanney is best known for a "You Tube" video in which he throws a variety of trick passes.

Tanney's arrival comes two days after Jason Campbell suffered a concussion in a loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Campbell hasn't been ruled out of Sunday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, but coach Rob Chudzinski said Monday that Weeden will likely get the start.

Well there you go, the latest in the Cleveland trail of tears. It's not the players that are the problem it is the team management who have no ability to grade talent.

I think that weeden should just leave. They never let a quarterback play long enough to see if they are good. Weeden is just a fool for taking their crap and this is coming from a steelers fan.

Well one thing for sure if he is good, he won't be playing for Cleveland long. They will trade him for some small pocket change or a late draft pick. One thing for certain Weeden will never be a top quality quarterback. Anytime they get someone that has potential, they trade him. That's the norm or Modell way of running a football franchise in Cleveland. Cleveland Browns fans deserve a championship caliber team, a sub par .500 not going to cut it anymore. I was surprised at all the empty seats at the Pittsburgh game. A rivalry that big is always a sell out in Cleveland. If the fans just keep doing that, they will get the point and fix it.

His college record is impressive. Maybe the Browns will draft a QB from Ohio State or Mount Union.
